Commodity Trading Character -Influence For Success

To be truly efficient in any enterprise for the long term requires the ability to successful and consistently influence your clients and co-workers. It is important to understand this concept: everyone influences someone; the question is-how do they influence them and what is the outcome resulting from that influence? Constructive and profitable influence which is the only kind worth developing is directly related not only to personal character of the individual but also their ability to create a perception in the mind of other that you can make decisions that will solve problems. A fifteen minute conversation on the phone with a broker about an oil contract or an hour at a seminar about purchasing commodity software may not be sufficient time to reveal character if the individual is scripted besides that type of influence is not what is addressed here. This is extremely important in commodity paper trading.

To increase your ability to influence means creating a genuine perception of competency with your clients. Also it will require that you stay in the loop of current information and pass that information along to your clients so they feel they are informed and up to speed. It means keeping up with your training and if training is not available seek out seminars that can provide you with additional skills and knowledge. If your client is under the impression you are not informed your credibility can be lost very quickly, right along with your ability to influence.

Learn to develop a take charge attitude or clients will be quick to discount your influence because you spend too much time sitting on your hands when a sufficient amount of data is known and you fail to decisively take action. A perception that you are a take charge commodity trader or broker will go a long way in your effectiveness to influence clients. A take charge attitude backed up by action is an effective way of communicating personal confidence in your ability to get things accomplished for your clients.

Display a grace under pressure especially when mistakes have been made, because mistakes will be made, clients want to know you won’t be the first nut to crack when the pressure and heat are turned up. Commodity paper trading is intense, fast paced and involves a lot of individual personalities; learn how to keep your cool even when the temperature in the room is boiling. When others have made apparent mistakes and the mistakes have been corrected, let them go, don’t hold on to them and move on.

Be content with what you are and if something about yourself is bothering you; get to the bottom of it. Clients are very perceptive and they will pick up on it, get it resolved and get back to the client’s business. You want to feel good about your ethical and moral character and to have a level of contentment reflected in the way you transact business and communicate with clients.

If clients see you tenaciously and persistently working to reach your goals they know that you will work in the same energized way to help them reach their goals. Persistence with exception should be your mantra when it pertains to completing projects and meeting deadlines. Adopting the persistence without exception rule will help energize you to get motivated or re-energize you when a few more hours will be required at the end of the day to finish everything. When you are persistent with exception and you look back on it all you accomplished it will seems as if it were easy.
