3 Types Of Careers With Commodity Trading -Discovering The Balance
When searching for a career a personality assessment is a good tool to utilize before you make a decision on which direction to pursue. Many career consultants today are employing a number of different personality tests to uncover and inform prospective professionals.
If we really want to break down careers into simplified groups we can begin with task-oriented careers where the day to day operations are concerned with jobs that center on the completion of various tasks. Accountants and analysts are good examples of task oriented careers. In these professions many hours are spent completing the associated tasks of record keeping and report writing. If you were hired as an analyst of a natural gas distributor you might spend a good part of your time analyzing the purchasing habits of businesses in an attempt to more efficiently prepare your inventory. Or if were in a career with a commodity trading firm you might be analyzing options and passing the results off to advisors. In these professions the daily momentum would be to move from one important task to another.
Secondly in our breakdown of careers we will have to consider people-oriented careers. The medical fields, social work and some sales careers are good examples of people-oriented careers. The extrovert and amiable personalities are sensitive to the signals people send out and find these careers most enjoyable. They understand every career involves tasks and that is alright if they are not tied too closely to task performance. To them it’s the people that make the job most rewarding and fulfilling. The tasks associated with their careers are only the reasons they are engaged with people. The main motivation for selecting a people-oriented career is to engage with people, develop rewarding relationships with them and feel a sense of fulfillment through interaction. It is all about the people.
Lastly are the careers that are a blend of task and people orientation. Examples might be a retail store manager or sales account manager. In these positions the professional is not only engaged in developing relationships with people but important tasks such as sales goals and inventory control are of equal importance. People play a pivotal role but equally with task performance. The pragmatic or problem-solving personalities are more likely to be part of these professional careers specifically because of this blend of people and task orientation. The pragmatic likes to be in control, give advice and work in a more competitive environment where their personality can be expressed and developed.
When searching for a career beginning with an assessment tool for your personality is an ideal place to start so you can make an informed decision. Without understanding your personality prior to undergoing training or taking a position might lead to disappointment and discouragement. Keep in mind many task-oriented and people-oriented careers are available in today’s marketplace along with the necessary training schools and universities. Don’t be reluctant to seek out career advisors before making a choice. Give yourself a better chance of pursuing the right career by understanding the day to day responsibilities involved with each.
