Conducting A Successful Seminar On CTA Commodity Trading - Some Helpful Suggestions
One of the biggest fears individuals experience is the act of public speaking. Rest assured like many other skills it can be learned. The fear that most experience is the anticipation that they will make a complete fool out themselves. With the right preparation, demonstration and presentation anyone can conduct a successful seminar.
Be Prepared: No one likes to attend a speaking event, presentation or seminar where the speaker is horribly ill-prepared. Nothing becomes more apparent then when a presenter is obviously not prepared to give a decent performance. Doing your homework to prepare for a seminar is critical to your successful presentation. Verify and get your facts straight. Most attendees at seminars are adults and if you try and snow them with unsubstantiated statements they will know. A little research and investigation will increase your ability to demonstrate your competency by presenting facts that are legitimate and true.
Keep it Simple and Straight Forward: Always keep the format simple and straight forward. Prepare your presentation so there is a logical flow to the information you are presenting. As an example if you are giving a presentation of the newest commodity trading software begin with how to install the platform on your hard drive. Move next to opening the windows necessary to begin its operation. Then you can take the next step on how to view charts for oil futures. I think you get the flow. Set up your presentation materials in a logical order for you. Avoid having your materials scattered about. You can have them in piles if they are in order of presentation beginning at the top. You can then remove the next group of materials as each segment of the seminar is completed. Organization will go a long way in putting on a good seminar flow.
Perform a Dress Rehearsal: Starting at the very beginning go through an actual step by step rehearsal of the presentation. This will allow you to identify any sticking points and work them out. This is also an opportunity to assess the amount of time you’ll have for each section. If you’re going to be using electronic equipment a rehearsal will prepare you for its use. Sometimes events can go wrong and the more prepared you are to deal with them the better. You don’t want to kill the mood of the presentation because the power-point program you will be using to demonstrate your product won’t load or the software has frozen up. Know how to deal with these problems before hand. Rehearsal is practice for what you want to go right and just in case things go wrong.
Perform Confirmations: If you have paid a commission on a rented conference room it is a good idea to confirm ahead; the time, date and cost of the room with the vendor. People make mistakes and you want to confirm ahead of time not on the day of the event that all is well. If the vendor will be providing some equipment verify that equipment will be available for the seminar. A CTA in commodity trading I know showed up to give a seminar and found no equipment available to present his product; seminar cancelled.
Seminars can be a great place to share your products and services with individuals that are already interested or they would not be attending. Use your creativity and experience to give them the best presentation that you are able. Keep cool, calm and collected even when the unexpected occurs and everyone will walk away with a good impression of you and your company.
